Education and training (accredited) assessment centre for dental nurses 

The education and training (accredited) assessment centre for dental nurses is based at the Eastman Dental Hospital, which is the only postgraduate dental hospital in the UK. Dentists from all over the world come to the hospital to take advanced training. All forms of dental treatment are undertaken from the straightforward and simple treatment to the most advanced techniques in dentistry.

The education and training centre provides continual professional development for dental nurses, including pre- and post-qualification and other certificated courses.

Courses

Pre-registration courses

Full-time dental nurse course
One intake of 25 students each year.

Course criteria:

  • English Language GCSE (Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Biological Science GCSE (Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Age 18 or over
  • Hold a British or European Passport**
  • Interview selection process.

*Qualifications will need to be verified by an independent body if they were not obtained in the UK. Contact details will be sent with application forms.

**Candidates short-listed for interviews are asked to being with them proof of status and original documentation/certificates.


National revision course
(five consecutive or individual days)

Courses held twice yearly. Approximately six weeks before the May and November National Examination.

Course criteria:

Actively studying for National Examination
Accepted by National Examining Board for either the May or November examination

Part-time course

One intake of 25 students each January

Two Tuesdays a month 9.30am-4.30pm. This is a modular programme.

The National Examination is taken in May and November.

Course criteria:

  • Attend Course Presentation session
  • Good written and spoken English – tested at interview
  • Interview selection process
  • Currently working as a dental nurse
  • Access to a PC/email
  • Must have support of employer to attend the course

Criteria for all post-qualification certificate courses:

  • A qualified and registered dental nurse
  • Working within the specialism of the post-qualification*
  • Certificate as appropriate
  • Attendance at the appropriate course presentation session
  • Have access to a PC/email

The courses include:

  • Face-to-face teaching
  • Completion of portfolios in the workplace
  • Practical assignments in the workplace
  • One-to-one sessions with course tutors

The course presentation session includes:

  • Presentation by course tutor
  • Question and answer session
  • Completion of application form
  • Informal interview to assess suitability

The course fee does not include the registration and examination fee

*Must have five years'  full-time experience following qualification, with the last three years in an orthodontic practice or department.
