Special care dentistry is concerned with providing and enabling the delivery of oral care for people with an impairment or disability. This may be physical, sensory, mental, medical, emotional or social.
Conditions treated
We provide care for adults with special care needs. Our service operates on a shared care programme with the Community Dental Service and/or the general dental practitioner where appropriate. Patients who have normally completed treatment will be discharged back to their own dentist. Our areas of expertise are those with haematological disorders and cardiovascular disease. We also offer treatment under general anaesthesia.
We are currently unable to provide treatment for:
- Hospitals with whom we do not have a service-level agreement (including The Royal Free Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital Paddington, Whittington Hospital)
- Patients with anxiety in relation to dentistry
- Patients who cannot be seen solely within the community dental service
