The UCLH centre opened in July 2007 and is now one of the largest obesity/bariatric centres in the county. We offer comprehensive medical and surgical services for the treatment of adolescents and adults with obesity. The service has a multidisciplinary approach, including three specialist consultant surgeons, two consultant physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, and dieticians. Anaesthetic support is provided by a team of five bariatric anaesthetists. Other services include advanced laparoscopic surgery for upper gastrointestinal benign disease (including antireflux surgery) and laparoscopic day case surgery for herniae and chloelithiasis.

The service sees approximately 700 new patients per year and operates on approximately 360.
Patient support services
- The UCLH bariatric patient support group meets on a monthly basis.
- Nurse specialist and dietician access numbers are made available to patients.
- There is a bariatric team for inpatient care.
- The hospital is fully equipped with furniture and equipment suitable for the heaviest patients.
Patient aftercare
Patient aftercare will be shared between us and the GP. Regular follow-up will be arranged prior to discharge.
