What happens during my first visit?

During the initial consultation you will be asked to give details of your medical history, current ailments, any medication you are taking, your lifestyle and any other relevant information which may be affecting your general wellbeing.

Each session will last between 40-50 minutes depending on patient needs, up to six appointments.

Your therapist will also give advice and teach skills as appropriate.

What does the treatment involve?

You will be asked to remove shoes and socks and sit or lie in a comfortable position on a couch. Treatment involves applying gentle pressure with the practitioner’s hands in a systematic way to the soles, ankles, and upper parts of both feet to stimulate the reflex points. Either talc or oil maybe used to help with ease of movement across the feet.

Are there any side-effects?

You may experience a feeling of relaxation, emotional release, possible headache and tiredness, as these often occur after the treatment.

These are your body’s natural reactions.

“Healing crises” occasionally occur, these are physical or emotional reactions which may include fever, nausea or sadness. If this happens, it should subside within 24 - 48 hours. If you have any concerns, please contact us.

Research

We audit our clinics using ‘Measure Yourself Medical Outcomes Profile’ (MYMOP) and your therapist will ask you to fill this in on your first and last appointments.

This will help us to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and provide evidence of its effectiveness – which is vital in today’s NHS.
