Our neurorehabilitation service comprises: Neuro-rehabilitation assessment clinic. We offer weekly neuro-rehabilitation assessment clinics where our patients are assessed by a multidisciplinary team. Our team usually comprises: a consultant neurologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, psychologist and rehabilitation specialist nurse.
The neuro-rehabilitation unit (NRU) is an 18-bed unit which specialises in the management of patients with neurological conditions. The multidisciplinary team cares for patients with predominantly complex physcial disability who require short periods (two weeks to four months) of rehabilitation. The aim of the NRU is to optimise an individual's physical, psychological, social and vocational/educational function by providing a focussed and response multidisciplinary service.
Patients attending the outpatient therapy department are referred to us by a consultant at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Adults of any age or level of disability with neurological conditions are seen. Individuals may be seen by one or more therapists from physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or speech and language therapy.
We care for patients with neurological conditions including:
- Cerebral palsy
- Genetic disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Neuropathies
- Spinal cord lesions
- Stroke
Current waiting times for inpatients is approximately one to three weeks, for outpatients approximately eight weeks.
