The Friends of UCLH is a registered charity formed in April 2005 when University College Hospital was opened. It resulted from the amalgamation of the Leagues of Friends of four of the Trust's hospitals. The Friends’ aim is to help the UCLH, its patients and staff by providing facilities and amenities which are not funded by the National Health Service. We provide many items which cannot otherwise be afforded.
The Friends committee is comprised of fifteen Trustees who meet regularly to consider grant requests from the hospitals that make up University College London Hospitals. Each application is given careful consideration.
Recent grants include:
- Artwork for the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson maternity wing
- ‘Music in Hospitals’ concerts
- Electronic falls prevention devices for the elderly
- Videofluoroscopy chair for the speech department
- New bedside and window curtains at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Art workshops for the children’s and elderly patients’ wards
- Furniture for the parents’ rooms in the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson wing.
We are dependent on subscriptions, donations and legacies for our funds and encourage all patients and staff to become members of the Friends. The minumum annual membership cost is £10. Friends are kept informed of events and invited to attend the AGM in November each year.
We are grateful to the Trust for providing the Friends with an office, which we share with the voluntary services department. The office is generally staffed on Mondays to Fridays from 9.15 am to 5 pm.
We always welcome more Friends. If you would like to join the Friends please contact our office on 0845 155 5000 ext 73038 or email friendsuclh@uclh.nhs.uk, or pop in to the office on the Ground Floor of UCH, along the corridor leading to the Timeout cafe.
We thank you for your support.
