What is the Governing Body?

The Governing Body made up of members of the local community, patients, staff and partner organisations is a valued and effective body advising the trust on issues that are important to patients and the wider community. It works with the trust to ensure it provides the best possible service to its patients. The Governing Body is actively involved in decision-making processes and the development of trust policy. trust members elect half of the governors.  Elections to the Governing Body are held each year.

How do I decide who to vote for in elections?

Ballot papers are distributed to members, which contain a written election statement by each candidate.

If I were elected, what would be my responsibilities as a member of the Governing Body?

Governors are required to attend four formal meetings per year, and most are also actively involved in groups which meet regularly to focus on specific issues such as improving the patient experience at our hospitals. The Governing Body is also responsible for appointing the Trust's Chairman, non-executive directors and auditors.

What is the term of office if I am elected?

The term of office is generally three years.

Are governers paid for the work they do?

No, but all reasonable expenses (such as travel) are reimbursed.
