This is our TruBrain Review a nootropic drink from a company of the same name which claims to help promote your overall mental cognition.
We give you our views, combined with the research, along with what other people are saying and if it is the option for you. If you’re interested in this stack and not sure about buying it, be sure to read this guide and you should have a better idea of what you want to do by the end of it.
Let’s get started.
What is TruBrain?
TruBrain is a course of nootropic drinks which are designed to help benefit your brain health to achieve the following results:
- Upgrade Working Memory
- Boost Mental Output
- Be More Productive
- Overcome Mental Blocks
- Better Verbal Fluency
If you’re not aware, natural nootropics are supplements which are comprised of nutrients, minerals and vitamins which are aimed at giving your brain more of the direct fuel it needs to work at optimum performance. This can help your cognitive focus, energy and other aspects.
There are plenty of options that they have made too. Recently TruBrain Bars and Ketones supplements have been added to their range.
However, for this review, we’ll be focusing primarily on the nootropic drink version of Trubrain to see how effective it really is. There’s no capsules here, this is product that you drink straight as a fluid.
We’ll be looking at the ingredients, side effects and other related queries our readers have been asking about.
Can you take TruBrain daily?
Yes you can. A pack of TruBrain Think Drink comes with 15, 30 or 60 drinks depending on your order size. The manufacturers recommend taking one drink of TruBrain per day either in the morning or afternoon. Not multiple times throughout the day.
They also acknowledge that the effects may take a few days for you to see noticeable results. This is the same for most natural nootropics while your brain adjusts to the new incoming nutrients.
TruBrain Trial
TruBrain offers a 10 day trial pack. This is available from their website and retails for $29.00 with free shipping in the US.
The idea behind the trial comes from what we mentioned earlier – TruBrain recommends that you take it daily for a period of time which allows your brain and body to adjust to it.
Natural nootropics aren’t supplements that you can take once and start getting the benefits from. You need to give yourself a constant supply of the nutrients your brain needs to work with to help give you the best results.
Is TruBrain FDA Approved?
TruBrain products are not FDA approved. The reason for this is that they are natural supplements – they are not drugs.
The FDA will only evaluate and approve products that need a prescription to use. Legally, TruBrain is not a drug and therefore it cannot be evaluated by the FDA.
That said, TruBrain is manufactured in FDA approved facilities and made to cGMP (Current Goods Manufacturing Process) standards. This is the best that you’ll get out of any supplement like this when it comes to FDA quality control.
Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule, when some of the individual ingredients need FDA approval – but in this case TruBrain is not one of them. More aggressive nootropics like oxiracetam are not approved by the FDA.
TruBrain Ingredients
Below is the list of ingredients in the original TruBrain:
- Noopept – 20 mg
- Acetyl-L-Carnitine – 500 mg
- N-Acetyl Tyrsoine – 350 mg
- Centrophenoxine – 250 mg
- Magnesium (as magnesium glycinate) – 200 mg
- L-Theanine – 160 mg
- Uridine Monophosphate – 500 mg
- Caffeine – 100 mg
This is what we like to see; clearly listed dosages for this nootropic stack. You know how much of each ingredient you’re getting, and you can use that information to see how effective it really is.
All in all, TruBrain doesn’t have a bad formula here, and it’s available in caffeine-free doses should you need it (we recommend going without caffeine).
Below, we talk about the main ingredients in TruBrain, the benefits it delivers and how this may help your brain function and cognition.
Noopept
Also known as N-Phenylacetyl-L-Prolylglycine Ethyl Ester. We know, we prefer calling it’s nickname too.
It’s a nootropic which is structurally similar to piracetam. The main difference here is though that this comes in a much lower standard dosed compared to piracetam which is usually around 4800 mg.
This piracetam alternative is thought to provide a neuroprotective effect after you take it – which is thought to aid with cognitive trauma or oxidative stress.
It’s important to note though, that there is no evidence to suggest that this piracetam stand-in can help those suffering from these conditions. More research is definitely needed into that area.
The main ability that it is claimed to do, is to help reduce cognitive decline. It’s definitely not as potent as piracetam if that’s what you’re thinking.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
One of the better energy boosting amino acids in TruBrain. It may not do much for cognition – but it may help you get energized.
ALCAR is required for your body’s cell energy. It’s mainly used for energy and muscle performance as 95% of your body’s carnitine lies in your muscles. You often find it in food like red meat.
This may help you with exercise for by boosting energy and metabolism. The energy boost from the L-Carnitine may help you experience to a mild degree of improved focus.
But it won’t perform as effectively as some of the more typical science studied nootropics that are more often used in these products.
N-Acetyl Tyrosine
L-Tyrosine is a good option in TruBrain. It has been seen in some cases to help with brain fog, poor focus and burn out.
It can help maintain norepinephrine levels that your body may lose due to a high workload or stress.
There’s also some clinical evidence to show that it can help mental processing and cognitive performance. It’s good for helping your feel less stressed and taking that pressure off to allow you to focus better.
Centrophenoxine
Imagine Centrophenoxine as a better version of DMAE when it comes to helping fight cognitive decline. DMAE sometimes has problems being absorbed by your body when supplemented and in some cases may even cause side effects.
Centrophenoxine is more easily absorbed and better at passing on the benefits. It’s the same way Alpha-GPC can help raise your choline levels.
It’s just a nice option to have in TruBrain ingredients list.
Magnesium
Magnesium can help to some degree with brain energy by how it helps ATP synthesis, however, it is a mineral which is usually linked to improving sleep.
It has been seen in numerous cases to help reduce impulses and twitches that may happen across your body while you sleep. This may help you to experience a better night’s rest.
It’s not going to do much as a nootropic – but as a lifestyle boosting mineral, it can have some effect here by supplementing it.
L-Theanine
This is a good addition to TruBrain – L-Theanine is an effective amino acid which is commonly found in herbs like Green Tea.
So, what does it do? Research shows that supplementing L-Theanine can help reduce stress and promote overall focus across your mind.
This works well when combined with a stimulant like caffeine because it can help reduce the jitters and improve the overall stability of the energy boosting effects, allowing you to focus better.
Uridine Monophosphate
At the moment, more research is needed into Uridine Monophosphate but there is some good preliminary evidence out there.
It may be able to help the synthesis of cellular membranes and other neurlogical properties.
As we’ve mentioned though, a lot more research is needed to know for sure.
Caffeine
You don’t have to be a supplement scientist to know that Caffeine is a potent stimulant. There is an endless amount of study into this nutrient, mainly because it is so widespread.
There’s plenty of research to show that this nutrient can help promote your energy levels, metabolism and of course your overall focus. TruBrain has a good amount of L-Theanine in here to help balance it out the jitters you may experience too.
However, there’s always a risk with a caffeinated nootropic of it causing energy crashes later on. It’s usually better to supplement caffeine on the side so you can pick the best dosage that works for you to improve your overall cognition.
This would also allow you to have days on and off of caffeine usage with this nootropic. There is a caffeine-free version of this supplement – but from our understanding you have to get a whole box of either a fully caffeinated version or not.
Side Effects: Is it Safe?
From what we can see, TruBrain looks like it shouldn’t cause any side effects. All the ingredients are natural and don’t have links to causing any serious problems at these dosages.
The only thing we suggest you keep an eye on is the caffeine dosage. Despite there being some L-Theanine to balance it, it could still cause some side effects in here like energy crashes – but you always get the caffeine-free version.
There are some other ingredients we’d also like to see to make this supplement more effective such as Rhodiola Rosea, Bacopa Monnieri and Phosphatidylserine. It’s a shame more nutrients like this aren’t included in this nootropic.
TruBrain Reddit: Customer Reviews
Reddit’s Nootropic community are notorious for their views on pre-made nootropic stacks on the market – and TruBrain is no different.
Unfortunately during our research, we could only find one review of TruBrain on reddit – and it was from 6 years ago. This means the formula may have undergone some changes since then.
The customer review is long, but they summarize it pretty well by stating that it helped them with their ADHD and depression. Their main concern was with the shipping and subscription service, apparently they ship a two week supply, every two weeks so sometimes there is a day gap where the user doesn’t have any of the product to continue to use.
Many of the others in the reddit community jumped in to say that you could make a similar stack yourself for much cheaper – and weren’t interested.
Although this is a positive review, we would suggest taking this with a pinch of salt, due to how long ago these comments were made. Things may have changed with the company since then.
TruBrain Lawsuit
There are no lawsuits against TruBrain, however, if you look on their Better Business Bureau page they currently have an ‘F’ rating and have numerous complaints from customers. The BBB also have a problem with how they advertise their drink trials.
If you Google ‘TruBrain BBB’ you’ll get the full picture, as for now we’ll give you the summary.
These complaints aren’t to do with the product itself, they are focused on the company charging them for product that they didn’t order. This may be a complication from their trial and subscription model.
Some users who ordered the trial service of TruBrain claim they were not unsubscribed from the service after ordering. The following result of this is that they continued to receive it after the trial was over an were still continued to be charged.
After your first payment for the trial, the price raises to $65.00 per month if you’re on their subscription plan. Part of this may be on the customer for not fully understanding what they were signing up for – and part of it may be on TruBrain for not making it clear enough. Regardless, people are not liking the automatic payments month on month.
If there’s one problem we see a lot in the supplement and nootropic world – it’s almost always the subscription model. Removing this payment method from the supplement industry would dramatically improve things, and be helpful for both manufacturers and customers.
It leaves too much of a sour taste in customer’s mouths when subscriptions are made month to month.
TruBrain Reviews
Now we are coming to the end of this review of TruBrain. As you can see, it has some good ingredients, but there are certain areas that let it down.
Don’t get us wrong, we like a lot of the ingredients that are being used here (even if we do think it could use some Rhodiola Rosea, Phosphatidylserine and some Bacopa – however, we don’t like that subscription model.
A lot of people seem to be having problems with it – and this is an issue that we see every month with supplement companies that do this.
Always make sure you read the conditions of what you’re signing up for and definitely make sure you spend a few hours doing research into what you’re getting. Maybe have a chat with a representative first to make sure you’re not walking into something you didn’t sign up for.
